Virgin Media to move BBC HD channels to prime EPG slots

HD First: next week, Virgin Media will promote more BBC HD channels to prime EPG slots.

On Tuesday 19th February 2019, BBC Four HD, BBC News HD, CBBC HD and CBeebies HD will move to the channel numbers currently used by the standard definition versions, giving the HD services the prime slots.

Since last year, Virgin Media's service no longer supports SD receivers, meaning HD services are able to come to the forefront, which an increasing number of channels now only offered in HD.

Virgin Media viewers will see BBC Four HD on 107, BBC News HD on 601, CBBC HD on 701 and CBeebies HD on 702.

There will be additional changes north of the border next week in preparation for the new BBC Scotland HD channel, which will launch in Scotland on Virgin channel 108. Following the closure of the SD-only BBC Two Scotland, BBC Two HD will move to channel 102 in Scotland.

Of the BBC channels with HD versions, only BBC One in England will remain SD by default on Virgin Media's network, due to the lack of regional versions. BBC Alba, BBC Parliament and BBC Red Button do not have HD versions.

Virgin Media has advised viewers that series links will not be affected and that the changes will take place automatically.
