TVPlayer drops channels as costs rise

Internet TV streaming service TVPlayer will lose further channels next month in the latest in a series of service changes.

After dropping QVC and CNN in February, Boomerang, Cartoon Network and Cartoonito will be removed from 22nd March 2019.

In an announcement to subscribers, TVPlayer has blamed the increased costs of licensing these channels for the decision.

Earlier this month, increased costs were also cited as a reason why ITV digital offshoots ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITVBe and CITV were no longer going to be carried on the basic free TVPlayer service - affected channels have moved to TVPlayer's Premium offering.

Although these channels are free-to-air on terrestrial TV, internet streaming providers still incur costs in providing such channels to end users.

Existing subscribers with the Kids Pack (no longer on sale to new customers) will continue to be able to subscribe to the pack, albeit with three fewer channels. However, the remaining premium children's channels - Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, Nick Jr Too and Baby TV will now be part of the top tier Premium+ service for new customers.

TVPlayer has now replaced its original two-tier premium service TVPlayer Plus Lite and TVPlayer Plus Max with Premium and Premium+ for new customers. At the same time, pricing has been revised. Premium now costs £6.99 a month and Premium+ £9.99 a month. A free trial is available for new customers - details are available at TVPlayer.com.
