Scala Radio begins test transmissions

New classical music station Scala Radio has commenced test transmissions ahead of its launch in early March.

The station has taken up its slot on the SDL National multiplex, where it occupies a 112kbps stereo slot. Listeners can either rescan to access the station, or visit another station of the SDL multiplex, such as "Jazz FM stereo", which will trigger an automatic scan in the background.

Operated by Bauer Media, currently in the middle of a rapid expansion of its UK radio activities, the station will feature Simon Mayo and Angelica Bell among its presenters when it goes live on the 4th March 2019.

As part of the latest changes to Bauer's national radio portfolio, which took place at midnight, the UK's most popular digital-only commercial radio station KISSTORY has now completed its transition from SDL to the Digital One multiplex and greater UK coverage.

To make way for KISSTORY, Absolute Radio 90s moved the other way at the beginning of the month.

Meanwhile DAB+ station Magic Chilled was moved to a selection of local DAB multiplexes to create additional space for Scala Radio to launch in stereo.
