Travel Channel distribution to be cut back

Discovery has confirmed it will be retaining the Travel Channel in the UK, but only on Sky and Virgin.

As previously reported, Travel Channel's Freeview and Freesat slots are being handed over to DMAX on 16th January 2019.

Travel Channel is one of two services fully operated by Scripps Networks in the UK that Discovery acquired as part of its purchase of Scripps. Since the takeover, both Travel Channel and DMAX have started showing the same programmes.

Globally, Discovery has been making changes to the Travel Channel. In the Netherlands and Belgium, Travel Channel is being withdrawn completely at the end of January 2019, while the channel has been dropped from cable operators in other countries. Meanwhile, in the USA, Travel Channel has been rebranded "Trvl", with a new logo and distinct focus on non-travel and paranormal programmes.

From 16th January 2019, Travel Channel will continue on Sky 198 and Virgin 292.
