FreeSport returns to Sky in ROI

FreeSports, the free-to-air sports channel from the people behind Premier Sports, has returned to Sky with a country-specific version.

The channel became available in the autumn in the Irish Republic on channel 429 before being suddenly removed. It's understood licensing/rights issues surrounding PRO14 Rugby prevented the UK version of the channel from continuing on the satellite platform. Additionally, the split prepares for a potential post-Brexit situation, where separate broadcast licence for Ireland is needed.

Previously, Sky viewers in the Republic of Ireland had to manually tune in the channel, which features sports including Tennis and Rugby League.

Despite the name, FreeSports Ireland is encrypted and officially only available to Sky subscribers in the Republic, while UK viewers can still access the free-to-air version broadcast via satellite on Sky UK and Freesat.

Once again, the channel is available in Ireland on Sky 429.

In the UK, FreeSports UK continues as normal on 422.
