Changes as BBC launches new HD services in Wales and NI

The BBC has launched localised versions of BBC Two HD for Wales and Northern Ireland, prompting a few changes.

On Sky and Freesat, BBC Two Wales HD is now live, where it can be found on channel 102 within Wales.

Sky viewers outside of Wales can see the channel on 971. The SD version has moved to channel 980 outside of Wales and to 802 within Wales.  As a result, BBC RB1 has moved to channel 981 across the UK. Viewers who would like to record BBC Two Wales programmes in HD should reset any series links across to the new channel.

Freesat viewers can now access BBC Four SD on channel 173, following the reallocation of channel 110 as the home for either BBC Two SD (in England and Wales) or BBC One SD (in Scotland and NI), as channels are shuffled to create a slot for BBC Scotland in the new year.

BBC Two NI HD will not launch on satellite at this stage. The BBC says it has "insufficient capacity", however the BBC has chosen to carry five HD channels per satellite transponder instead of six HD channels as ITV currently does. Some capacity will be used for the new BBC Scotland HD channel from February.

On Freeview HD and YouView (BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet TV), BBC Two Wales HD is now available in Wales. You may need to retune to get the service on channel 102.  BBC Two Northern Ireland HD is now available in Northern Ireland. You may need to retune to get the service on 102. Series links previously set to the network version of BBC Two HD that's now been replaced in these nations should be re-set.

On Virgin Media, the two new services will be available from the 4th December 2018, as part of a wider reshuffle of BBC services taking place on that date.

On the BBC iPlayer, HD streams of BBC Two for Wales and Northern Ireland are now available.

North of the border
In Scotland, BBC Two Scotland will close in mid-February, shortly before the launch of the new BBC Scotland TV channel on Sunday 24th February 2019. As a result, viewers in Scotland will see the current BBC Two Scotland service replaced by the main network version form London at that point. Therefore, there will be no BBC Two Scotland HD channel.
