BBC announces next UHD trial

Dynasties, the latest BBC blockbuster wildlife series, will be made available to viewers in UHD last this month.

The show, which starts on BBC One on 11th November 2018, is the latest to be made available in the high quality standard being trialled by the corporation and delivered on compatible devices connected to the BBC iPlayer. Dynasties follows the true stories of five of the world’s most celebrated, yet endangered animals - the chimpanzee, emperor penguins, hunting dogs, lions and tigers.

Previous UHD trials have included Blue Planet II and coverage of the FIFA Men's World Cup.

Matthew Postgate, the broadcaster’s chief technology and product officer said:
“Dynasties is exactly the kind of landmark BBC programme that audiences want to see in ultra HD. We’ve been trialling ultra HD over the past couple of years as we reinvent the BBC, and it’s clear that people enjoy the increased quality."

  • Minimum specification: Audiences will need an internet connection of 24MBit/s for the full 3840 pixel Ultra HD or 12MBit/s for 2560 pixel Ultra HD.
  • Footage will be played at 25 frames per second.
