Motorsport TV ends linear channel; replacement service stumbles

UPDATE | The channel is becoming an online-only service after closing its linear channels last night.

Motorsport TV ceased at 23:00 UK/00:00 CET on Sunday evening across Europe, ending a turbulent time for the channel, which has struggled to stay on air in recent years.

Ahead of the final switch-off, the HD continental version of the channel was being shown on a free-to-air basis via the Astra 19.2 satellite position, after leaving the Canal+ subscription package.

But motor sports fans who were hoping to access the channel's website to access the new online service were unable to do so.

Instead of being able to access the promised new offering of on-demand motor sports content, viewers found motorsport.tv showing a 'down for maintenance' message.

By lunchtime, the online service had gone live, albeit still loading slowly. Users can try out the new online Motorsport.tv using a one month free trial, available via www.motorsport.tv.
