Arris to develop next-gen UHD Freesat box

Telecoms equipment manufacturing company Arris has been selected to develop Freesat's next generation UHD devices.

A year after seeking proposals from manufacturers regarding a next generation Freesat service, Arris will develop devices that will support UHD/HDR reception and online streaming.

The new box, to be launched in 2019, will allow Freesat to offer 4K UHD content, and provide users with the latest on-demand services. Using the KreaTV software platform from Arris, Freesat said it would be able to leverage the OTT framework for services including Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and others.

Steve McCaffery, President and Managing Director, International Business Operations Group, Arris said:
“We’re gaining steady momentum in the international market by responding quickly to the evolving needs of our service provider customers and consumers around the world. Our customers appreciate the diversity of solutions that we offer, and our latest design wins attest to our leadership and expertise in helping them deliver tomorrow’s entertainment and broadband experiences.”
