Sky battle: Fox gets Govt green light

The Government has said 21st Century Fox can go ahead and acquire the stake of Sky it doesn't already own.

But Fox will now need to outbid rival Comcast if it wants to seal the deal. Currently, Comcast is bidding £26bn for Sky, while 21st Century Fox has a £24.5bn offer on the table.

In order to get Government approval for the proposed takeover, 21st Century Fox agreed to sell Sky News, providing the news channel with a financial support package in the process, to ensure the channel's future viability and independence.
