Celtic and Arsenal picked for BT Freeview coverage

Celtic and Arsenal feature in BT's next round of free-to-air European club football coverage.

The two sides have been chosen for broadcast on BT's Freeview HD channel BT Showcase, with a free live stream to be available online, as part of BT's overall coverage of the second week of group stage action from the Champions and Europa League.

While all Champions League fixtures on Tuesday 26th September 2017 will be shown behind BT's paywall, on Wednesday 27th September, Celtic's trip to Anderlecht will be televised and shown on Freeview HD channel 115. Coverage starts at 7pm, with kick-off at 7:45pm.

On Thursday 28th September, the Europa League is back in action with Arsenal's away game at FC BATE Borisov being shown live and free from 6pm.

BT Showcase HD is only available in some areas on Freeview channel 115, and requires a Freeview HD compatible device. Free-to-air coverage is also available via and Virgin Media 548. BT Sport subscribers via Sky, Virgin Media, BT TV, TalkTalk TV, EE and Plusnet can see all available Champions and Europa League matches on the main BT Sport pay TV channels.

A total of 26 European matches from the Champions and Europa League will be shown this season, as part of the third and final season of a broadcast rights arrangement between UEFA and BT Sport that stipulated a minimum number of free-to-air games, following the end of live coverage on ITV.  Each UK team taking part is guaranteed to be shown once on a free-to-air basis, leaving much of the free-to-air coverage later in the season to other European sides.

From the 2018/19 season - the first year of a new three year deal between UEFA and BT, there is no such stipulation, and it's still unclear how much BT will show on a free-to-air basis, beyond clips on social media.
