Local digital radio coverage boost for Surrey as expansion completes

Muxco has completed its coverage expansion of the Surrey and South London DAB radio multiplex, with two new transmitters being brought into service.

The local digital radio multiplex for Surrey and South London now covers around 800,000 people in Surrey and a further 3 million in South London, with the extra coverage improving reception of DAB stations including Eagle Oldies, JACK and Golden Radio.

In a blog post, Muxco's Matt Deegan confirmed that the expansion of the multiplex had completed on Friday 27th May with transmitters added at Dorking and Caterham Old Park Wood.

The additional transmitters not only add extra areas to the local DAB coverage area, but also enhance existing reception, including in-car reception. A map of the coverage area has been uploaded to the Muxco website.

The expansion of the Surrey and South London multiplex was part of a UK-wide initiative between multiplex operators, broadcasters, government and Ofcom to boost local DAB multiplex coverage through additional transmitters and power boosts to bring local DAB multiplex coverage on par with the coverage of each area's main commercial FM radio service. Local DAB expansion is due to complete in other areas later this year.
