Channel 4 launches two new HD channels on Freeview

Channel 4 is launching two new HD channels on Freeview on 1st July 2014, using extra capacity awarded to multiplex operator Arqiva last year to facilitate more HD channels on the terrestrial platform.

The two new HD services - Channel 4+1 HD and 4seven HD - will launch on channels 110 and 111 respectively, and anyone who can already receive BBC Four HD (channel 106) and Al Jazeera HD (channel 108) via Freeview HD or YouView will be able to receive the new Channel 4 services when they launch.

Most Freeview HD devices will automatically add the channels once they have launched, especially if the TV, set-top-box or PVR is tuned to another channel on the same frequency, such as BBC Four HD.

Just over 70% of the UK population are in the coverage area for these new services - part of digital multiplex COM7, which was rolled-out between November 2013 and June 2014. HD channel coverage can be checked via the Digital UK coverage checker.

FAQ: Why Channel 4+1 HD and 4seven HD, but not Film 4 HD / E4 HD/  More 4 HD on Freeview?

What's available on Freeview HD?

  1. What is the point in this? They are launching two catch up services in HD rather than E4 HD, More 4 HD or even better Film4 HD. Seems like a waste to me

  2. The FAQ link at the end of the article above explains why you won't be seeing E4 HD or More 4 HD on Freeview HD just yet.

  3. Any idea when these pay TV contracts expire? I too would have preferred to see Film4 HD on Freeview.

  4. Sorry no. Usually the terms of such carriage deals are confidential.

  5. Time call channel 4 and email them to day that those hd channel have little to no worth to freesat or freeview and that film4 hd or more4hd or E4 hd would be better suited for freesat or freeview and time channel four to stop taking bribes from $ky or virgin

  6. The FAQ link at the end of the article above explains why you won't be seeing E4 HD, Film4 HD or More 4 HD on Freeview HD just yet. This also applies to availability on Freesat.
