Freesat lines up more music channels

  • Bauer Media adds four services from its channel portfolio on Freesat.

Four new music channels have been added to the Freesat line-up today, but one channel has been deleted.

Bauer Media owned Kiss TV, The Box, Smash Hits TV and Kerrang TV have been added, just two weeks after the channels went free-to-air on satellite. There had been no official announcement prior to the move. Previously, the channels were part of Sky's Entertainment Extra pack.

Channel AKA, operated by AATW TV, has meanwhile been taken off Freesat after just under five months, although it remains on satellite and on the Sky programme guide.  Channel AKA first joined Freesat on the 29th November 2012.

The additions have left some gaps in the channel numbering system, heightening speculation of more music channels joining in the future. Notably, Bauer's Heat and Magic TV channels, which also went free to air earlier this month remain absent from the Freesat guide - for the time being.

Bauer's move comes after rival Global Radio launched TV offshoots of its main radio networks - Heart and Capital - as free to air services last year.
