Two more Asian stations withdraw from DAB in West Midlands

Asian media website BizAsia has today confirmed the withdrawal of Sunrise Radio and Punjabi Radio from DAB digital radio in the West Midlands.

The stations were originally available on local DAB multiplexes across Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton, although Sunrise Radio had already withdrawn from the Birmingham multiplex last year.

It's not the first major departure from DAB in the West Midlands for Asian broadcasters: Sanjhi Awaz and Asian FX withdrew from the West Midlands regional multiplex last Summer.

Both Sunrise and Punjabi continue to be available on DAB digital radio in the London area. The changes mean that the local multiplexes serving Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton now have adequate space to take on radio stations, e.g. Heart, relocating from the West Midlands regional multiplex, which is closing this summer.
