S4C website hacked

Welsh broadcaster S4C has announced that its website was compromised last week and that users who visited the site may have had their computers infected.

Anyone who visited the S4C website on the 20th November from late morning onwards is being advised to run a full virus scan. Some firewall software is continuing to block access to the site.

The statement now placed on the website reads: "It has come to our attention that the S4C website was affected by software that may attempt to install a virus from a third party site. This may have affected users who visited the site between around 1100am and midnight on Tuesday the 20 November.

We recommend that you take the following steps as a matter of urgency to deal with this, even if there are no obvious signs that your computer has been affected:
  • If you have virus checking and anti-malware software installed, ensure that is up-to-date and run a scan on your computer
  • If you don’t have such software we recommend you install anti-malware, antivirus and firewall software
  • Ensure that your operating system and web browser are up to date, and you have the latest version of Java, if this is installed
Both the website and the Clic service have now been restored. The S4C Clic App was not affected."
