STV Player arrives on Scottish YouView

STV's on demand service STV Player is now available on YouView for viewers living in the postcodes assigned to STV's Channel 3 licence area in Scotland.

This is in place of ITV plc's ITV Player, which is available to viewers in England, Wales, Channel Islands and Scottish Borders.

Scottish YouView box owners will now be able to catch up on STV programming from the past seven days using the backward EPG. Programming also includes ITV shows such as Coronation Street, The X Factor and Emmerdale.

The announcement comes days after the Scottish broadcaster released a statement to the Stock Exchange confirming that Ofcom had given the green light for a new structure to the Channel 3 network, meaning that STV and Northern Ireland's UTV are now affliates to ITV in the network.

In a press release issued today, YouView stated "STV was selected as one of the first of two initial additional content partners from over 300 expressions of interest from potential partners. Sky’s new internet TV service, NOW TV, is the other additional content partner."

Meanwhile, YouView CEO Richard Halton went on the record saying: "We are very pleased to have STV on board as one of the first content partners for YouView. STV is one of the UK’s most popular television networks offering brilliant original content and it is great that their player is now live on YouView, giving users on-demand access to the channel."

Northern Irish viewers will have to wait until they can use a catch up service for Channel 3 programmes. Local ITV affilate UTV has not yet launched an equivalant service for YouView.
