Encore Radio reduces DAB coverage

Encore Radio, a station specialising in songs from musicals, is to withdraw from DAB outside of the London area.

Broadcasts on the local digital radio multiplexes for Herts, Bed, Bucks, Essex and Kent are being dropped, leaving just the service on just the London & Surrey multiplex.

The station has already updated its website, advocating that listeners use its webstreams, promoting its widespread availability on smart home devices.

The station launched across south-eastern England on DAB in October 2016, but its emphasis on concentrating on reception via connected devices is part of a wider shift across parts of the industry, making use of the explosion in the number of smart or connected devices in households that can be used to reach listeners, without the expense or coverage restrictions of DAB transmissions.
