"Together" prepares for Freeview launch

UPDATE | The Community Channel prepares to return to Freeview under its new brand name -"Together".

A placeholder for the Together TV channel, which officially launches next week, has now appeared on Freeview and YouView channel 93 in some areas. Viewers require a Freeview Play / Freeview HD / YouView or another DVB-T2 compatible device to see the channel - it will only be broadcast from transmitters that also carry the extended range of Freeview channels that includes BBC Four HD.

The new branding is the culmination of two years of major change for the Community Channel, which became a "community benefit society" in 2016, following a crowdfunding effort where individuals and organisations were given a chance to buy a share in the channel. Together, which launches at 11am on 16th January 2018, will launch with a revised schedule of mostly factual and lifestyle programmes. a516digital understands that the channel's management are activity encouraging content producers to provide programming that is exclusive to the channel.

Last year, the Community Channel sold its existing Freeview channel in a deal that saw its Freeview service licence being spun off to a separate company, which was subsequently taken over by a subsidary of A+E Networks, the owner of TV channel Blaze. The move enabled Blaze to be promoted to a better Freeview channel number.

On satellite and cable platforms, Together will replace the existing Community Channel service.
