Sports Channel Network goes live on connected Freeview devices

A new on-demand streaming sports service has gone live via Freeview.

Little is known about "Sports Channel Network", which first received a placeholder on Freeview's Electronic Programme Guide in the summer, prompting speculation in forums about what it might offer viewers.

The service has quietly launched this week on channel 273 via compatible connected Freeview devices and contains an on-demand portal which enables users to select content across a number of sporting genres.

Users of compatible devices will see the portal pictured above. Confusingly, other devices still display a coming soon message.

Programming is largely of the syndicated type that appears on various channels, including Mobil 1: The Grid and Gillette World of Sport 2017 alongside a number of programmes providing coverage of sports events not often shown on TV. Sections for the Winter Olympics and FIFA World Cup 2018 also appear, currently without content, and it is not clear what will appear in these sections as other broadcasters hold the UK live and on-demand rights for these events.

The service has a Twitter account, which can be found at @SCN_channel. The service appears to have soft launched with no publicity or viewer support at this stage. As a general rule, devices that work with the Vision TV & Planet Knowledge services on channels 264/265 are more likely to work with Sports Channel Network: let us know if you can access it @a516digital on Twitter and www.facebook.com/a516digital.
