"Bigger, Better Freeview" information campaign starts

Freeview's information channel is being used for the first time to alert viewers to next week's changes to the channel listing.

On the 2nd August 2017, news, children's, text, streamed and adult services will be moving to new positions on the Freeview channel list, as part of a channel change that is being promoted to viewers as providing a "bigger, better Freeview".

The Freeview Information channel (channel 100) - which since its launch in 2015 has carried a basic text slate with contact details - is for the first time providing channel update information to viewers, including a basic overview of the changes, retuning information and contact details.

The service is part of an on-going initiative to improve viewer support, which has also seen the TV platform launch Freeview Explore on devices that support the new Freeview Play service. Freeview Explore also provides viewers with service updates in addition to the pick of the day's programmes.

Most Freeview viewers will need to retune once the changes have taken place on the 2nd August 2017, although some newer devices will automatically adapt to the changes. In addition to the 2nd August retune, some viewers in the North of Scotland will need to retune again between 26th July and 4th October 2017, due to frequency changes.

The changes also affect users of YouView (BT TV, TalkTalk TV, Plusnet TV) and EE TV boxes.
