STV2 start date and reception details announced

Scottish broadcaster STV has confirmed it will be launching its new network on Monday 24th April at 5pm

STV2 will offer a mixture of programme genres combined with local, Scottish and international news. The channel will replace the existing STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh City TV channels on this date and will additionally launch in Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee.

The broadcaster says STV2 will reflect "what's happening across Scotland on screen with an exciting schedule, featuring live events, news and new programming including a soap, drama and movies."

The STV2 launch will mark the start of STV's landmark new service for Scotland, STV News Tonight - the first integrated news programme containing world, UK and Scottish news in one programme, to be broadcast weeknights at 7pm. The STV2 schedule will also include hourly news bulletins and two dedicated half hour news programmes at 1pm and 10pm.

Announcing the launch of the new channel, Bobby Hain, director of channels at STV, said:
"STV2 is the first commercial TV channel with a distinct schedule for Scotland and we're excited to confirm the channel will launch on Monday 24th April.
STV2 has Scotland at its core with an entertaining mix of content. Our flagship news programme, STV News Tonight, will air every weeknight as part of a diverse schedule including a live magazine show, live events, local sport, drama and entertainment."
