The new owners of Motors TV will retain a traditional linear service following last week's takeover announcement.
On Friday, Motorsports Network, the Miami-based new owner of Motors TV and operator of Motorsport.com issued a press release indicating that 2017 would mark "its transition from traditional linear broadcasting to a Video on Demand (VOD) service with the launch of [Motorsport Network's] Motorsport.tv’s new digital platform."
Now sources have confirmed that rather than just transitioning to video-on-demand, linear broadcasting will continue in addition to the revamped video-on-demand service, with the channel getting a full HD outlet on some platforms across Europe from 1st March 2017. Currently Motors TV HD, where distributed, is upscaled. The channel has also confirmed that is "evaluating" its distribution channels in the UK and that its Sky outlet will continue alongside the new online service.
However, as indicated in the press release, the channel, which is being absorbed into Motorsports.tv, will provide a chance for more viewers to access a wider range of motorsport content, with a major launch across many connected devices scheduled in 2017.
