Global audiences invited to BBC Scotland pop-up station

Listeners around the world will be able to join in the BBC's celebration of Scottish music with the addition of BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra on the BBC's iPlayer Radio App.

BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra is on air from 23rd November until St Andrew's Day - 30th November 2016. It will showcase Scotland’s diverse musical landscape, taking in everything from rock and pop to country, traditional and jazz, while BBC Radio Scotland’s main programming continues as normal.

The Extra schedule will include new content with its own dedicated breakfast, mid-morning and drivetime shows on weekdays, as well as hand-picked programmes from the BBC archive and exclusive live sessions from the likes of Simple Minds and Travis. Jenny Farish (pictured) will host the Breakfast Show from 7-9am.

Listeners around the world will also be able to listen to the station at www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotlandmusicextra. The programmes will be available on-demand for 30 days after broadcast.

Availability on DAB digital radio in Scotland
Within Scotland, the station will also be distributed on DAB digital radio in those areas where there is a local DAB network, i.e. where BBC Radio Scotland is already available on DAB digital radio (Aberdeen, Ayr, Dundee/Perth, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness). Outside of those areas, it will be only available on mobile and online platforms.

To accommodate the temporary service, BBC Radio Scotland on DAB will become a mono-only service for the duration of the pop-up, to enable the BBC to use its limited bitrate allocation to broadcast both services. The BBC has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the loss of stereo. BBC Radio Scotland Music Extra should automatically appear on DAB station lists straight after BBC Radio Scotland. Listeners who can't get the station should try tuning in to BBC Radio Scotland's DAB feed for 30 seconds and then check their station list. In a small number of cases, listeners may need to initiate an autotune of their DAB radio. Instructions are available here...
