Freeview Play-Ready devices are going on sale

New Panasonic TVs that will support the new Freeview Play service when it goes live later in 2015, are going on sale.

TV models that will support the service are signposted by the term "Freeview Play inside" on the Panasonic website.

Freeview has advised purchasers of these devices that once Freeview Play becomes available, the TV will alert users that an upgrade is available - but the TV needs to be connected to the internet. The upgrade will update the TV's software so that the Freeview Play service becomes available from the TV guide. A new Freeview Play home page will become available.

Freeview Play will integrate BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All4 and Demand 5 into the TV guide, allowing viewers to scroll back through the TV guide to view previously aired programmes.

Details of the Panasonic TVs that will support Freeview Play are listed on the Panasonic website.

  • A minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps will be required to use Freeview Play's connected services. Users without an unlimited broadband package should note that usage will count toward any data allowance caps.

  1. Freeview Play will no doubt evolve the Freeview EPG into a televised portal like WiFi radio's Reciva & Frontier-Silicon. It could become a wake up call for established pay TV services like Virgin & Sky!
