Six years on, local TV returns to Oxford

Local TV channel That's Oxford is making a low key entrance to Freeview in Oxfordshire today, following several months of delays blamed on "technical issues".

The launch date was only confirmed earlier this week on the channel's social media outlets. But technical problems appear to persist, with the channel taking to Twitter to confirm that they are "running a little behind schedule" on launch night.

That's Oxford is the latest local TV channel to commence broadcasting on digital terrestrial TV and the second channel from That's Media, which last year launched a service for the Solent area and is due to launch further local TV services in England.

A modest launch announcement from the new channel
It's been six years since Oxford's first local TV channel Six TV abruptly ceased transmissions. The channel closed amidst falling numbers of analogue TV viewers and uncertainty over how it would be able to survive through digital switchover.

  • Broadcasting from the Oxford (Beckley) TV transmitter, viewers will find That's Oxford on Freeview and YouView channel 8. Most Freeview viewers in the coverage area who have retuned Freeview in recent months should already have That's Oxford on channel 8, along with QVC Extra (on channel 57) and POP (on channel 125), as all three services are bundled on the same frequency.
