Freeview Channel Updates: December 2014

Coverage of changes to the Freeview / Digital Terrestrial Television service in the UK during the last month of 2014, which sees local TV reach Merseyside and changes made to Motors TV and Vintage TV on channels 240 and 242:

What's changed so far?
This is where the changes to Freeview this month (so far) are listed. Where there is more than one change, the most recent changes are listed first. Any services listed in yellow require a TV, PVR or set-top-box that supports DVB-T2/Freeview HD.

During Christmas and New Year, no changes are made to the Freeview service. Before the change freeze, the following changes were made:

Help and advice
You can check which Freeview channels should be available in your area on the official Digital UK postcode checker. The channels that you will be able to receive is also dependent on the state of your aerial, cabling and the type of receiver you use.





Multiplex capacity
Available multiplex capacity provides an early indication of whether there is any bandwidth available for any new Freeview channels.
  • UKTV has moved Dave Ja Vu to a full-time slot on a new frequency.
  • BT has told its customers that BT Sport 2 will cease on Digital Terrestrial TV channel 59 in January 2015. What's replacing it is yet to be announced.
  • There is currently unused capacity on the BBC-B multiplex, which carries channels including BBC One HD, Channel 4 HD and Film4+1.
  • Capacity sufficient for one further standard definition channel is currently unused on the COM7 multiplex, based on the current configuration (02/12/2014).

Local TV


Local TV stations coming soon on Freeview and YouView channel 8 in England and Northern Ireland, or channel 23 in Scotland and Wales
Local TV is carried on Freeview via a multiplex which carries a local TV service, plus two slots for commercial broadcasters.
