Made in Tyne and Wear confirms November launch

Made in Tyne and Wear's Freeview signal comes from Pontop Pike
Made in Tyne and Wear is the latest local TV station to provide launch timescales for its service, which will provide a service on Freeview and YouView channel 8 across a broad section of the Tyne Tees TV region.

The service promises to provide a dedicated local news service every evening and regular news updates throughout the day, alongside sport, current affairs, debates on local issues and guides to the latest cultural and entertainment events in the North East.

The channel will launch on 12th November 2014. On Freeview and YouView, it's been broadcasting a barker or test since the end of August, so viewers who recently retuned Freeview following the addition of new channels should see the channel on number 8 in their channel list in preparation for the launch.

Broadcasting from the main Pontop Pike transmitter, the signal covers an area stretching from the outskirts of Alnwick in the north down to Teesside, although Teesside will get its own local TV service - Made in Teesside - later next year from the Bilsdale transmitter site. Viewers who receive Freeview from relays of Pontop Pike or the main Chatton transmitter in Northumberland will not receive Made in Tyne and Wear terrestrially.

The service will also broadcast on Virgin Media channel 159 from its launch day. Sky viewers will need to wait until 1st December, when the service will go live on channel 117. Sky and Virgin Media coverage areas will vary to the terrestrial coverage area, due to the different make-up of the satellite and cable networks, with Sky able to add coverage based on postcode area.
