a516digital: browser compatibility

There are two versions of this site: desktop/tablet (responsive) and a simplified version for mobile.

It's been tested to work with Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome and Apple's Safari for Windows, but we're aware of some issues, which are listed below. Sorry, but a516digital is unable to support Windows Phone.

The site is also available on Internet Explorer, but sometimes graphics and layout may alter. a516digital recommends you upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer, as older versions can't be supported.

On mobile, a simplified site is available, and this has been tested on the mobile Safari, Samsung Galaxy Internet browser and mobile Chrome browsers. It has been tested on both smartphones and tablets running Android. Not all mobile phone browsers support the main website properly, and should automatically default to the mobile site. During tests, Chrome for mobile has been shown as providing the correct rendition of the responsive website, scaled down for mobile usage.

Known issues:
Mobile: Images not appearing. Browser says image link broken or images don't exist at the specified location.
In testing, a516digital has replicated this fault. It sometimes results in your device showing a question mark or X where an image should be. Confusingly, the images do exist at the specified location, as they appear on other devices. The fault can be replicated on more than one browser on the same device at the same time. Restarting the affected device often clears the problem, resulting in the images appearing as normal. 

Other solutions: clear browser cache; check to see if firewalls are blocking access to our picture library.

Mobile: Can't see all data / information on a page
Sometimes we use tables to clearly display information. If you are a mobile user, try rotating your phone by 90 degrees (you may need to turn this function on). The screen will become wider and resize to show you the information we couldn't otherwise squeeze on your screen.

Advice for Windows Phone users: The website does not support Windows Phone, as the default browser can't display the pages properly. a516digtal isn't planning to launch a second version for Windows Phone.

Mobile: "Web version" of the site doesn't display properly.
Not all mobile phone browsers support the new version of the main website properly. During tests, Chrome for mobile has been shown as providing the correct rendition of the responsive website, scaled down for mobile usage. A simplified mobile version of the website is available, as it offers most mobile users a better and simplified experience on the smallest of screens.

Responsive: Resizing issues
An update to the website has been applied meaning that some of the initial resizing issues have been resolved. Other minor issues are still being looked into.

Responsive: Small text on some pages
Older pages which often contain information with small text are in the process of being categorised and either updated or sent to archive. Updated pages will be reformatted to make use of the new layout, including larger text size.

Responsive: Display of images - stretched or squeezed
This is currently being worked on and is due to the new system unpinning the website that isn't compatible with some of the images in the library.
