Sky offers pay TV viewers a Sky Sports freebie

Sky is offering all seven Sky Sports channels for free to Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk YouView and UPC households on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premiership season - Saturday 16th August.

Viewers will be able to watch Arsenal v Crystal Palace at 5:30pm, plus football from the SkyBet Championship, Scottish Premiership and Eredivisie plus England Test cricket, golf, rugby union and ATP tennis.

The free day is slightly less generous than last year's promotion, which saw free sport being shown on Freeview and BT TV via Sky's free-to-air channel Pick. However, the free day gives Sky an opportunity to show off its new Sky Sports 5 channel to millions of satellite and cable subscribers.

Those pay TV customers tempted to subscribe after the free day are being told that Sky Sports will show more football "than ever before" this coming season. Sky subscribers with Sky Sports can still claim two years' free broadband.
