POP launches on Freeview via local TV multiplex

UPDATED CSC Media's children's channel POP has launched on Freeview channel 75 in areas where local TV is or will be available on the digital terrestrial TV platform.

It becomes the first children's channel to launch on the Freeview platform since the start of the CITV channel in 2006, becoming the fourth channel in the children's genre (excluding HD simulcast channels).

The channel will also be available to YouView viewers on channel 75 in local TV coverage areas. Viewers who can already receive a local TV service on channel 8 or Bonanza Bonanza on channel 64 should retune to get the channel. It has replaced the Local TV test service on channel 791.

The Local TV multiplex is operated by Comux and has capacity for one local TV service, plus two "quasi-national" TV channels - one of which is POP. The local TV multiplex is currently not available in the Granada TV region, but will be shortly activated when POP will become available.

Local TV location information

POP is already available on satellite, where it has been on-air since 2003. It's the home of Oggy and the Cockroaches and the Scardey Squirrel, scientific fun in Finding Stuff Out and Kid Detectives plus new favourites’ The Littlest Pet Shop and Artzooka!

POP becomes CSC Media's second channel to launch on Freeview, following the successful launch of True Entertainment back in August on Freeview channel 61 (except Wales). Speculation over POP coming to Freeview surfaced when the channel received an Ofcom licence to broadcast on Freeview back in February.
