France 24 licensed for seperate Freeview streamed channel

Ofcom has issued a licence to Connect TV on behalf of Paris-based news channel France 24 for Freeview's streamed channel service.

France 24 operates news channels in Arabic, English and French around the world. The French version of France 24 is currently available via Vision TV Network on channel 225. The licence paves the way for the service to launch on its own Freeview channel number.

Streamed channels are available on compatible Freeview HD certified devices with access to a broadband connection of at least 2-2.5 Mbps.

Connect TV is owned by multiplex operator Arqiva, who already operate a number of streamed channels on Freeview, providing gateways to services including CCTV, Propeller TV and Racing UK.

Channels 225-229 on Freeview are set aside for streamed channels.
