Freesat boosts South Asian channel line-up

Freesat's international channel line up has just been boosted with the addition of two South Asian channels, joining Sony SAB from channel 660.

The channels are owned by Viacom18, a joint venture between MTV to Nickelodeon broadcaster Viacom and India's Network 18 Group.

Entertainment channel Colors and sister channel Rishtey can now been found on channels 661 and 662. Colors is the main station for owner Viacom18; it first launched in the UK and Ireland on 25th January 2010 via Sky. The channel went free-to-air in September 2013.

Rishtey broadcasts re-runs of shows shown on Colors and first launched in the UK and Ireland in 2012.

The launch of further South Asian channels on Freesat is a major coup for the free-to-air satellite TV operator - traditionally most Asian channels have only been distributed via Sky or cable operators in the UK and Ireland. Freesat also boasts two Asian music channels: B4U and Zee TV's Zing on channels 504 and 509 respectively.
