Roll-out of extra Freeview HD channels: information and schedule

update Extra channels on Freeview are being rolled out across the UK over the next few months, reaching 70% of the UK households by mid-2014.

By 10th December 2013, 50% of UK households were in the coverage area for the extra channels. Further areas follow in 2014 to reach 70% of households by the start of Wimbledon.

Extra channels are available via a new multiplex (or bundle of channels) called "COM7". New channels include Al Jazeera English HD, BBC Four HD, BBC News HD and CBeebies HD, plus Al Jazeera Arabic in standard definition.

* The transmitter serving this area is due to be upgraded by no later than Wimbledon 2014, which starts on the 23rd June 2014. Some sites will be going live before then, but exact dates have not yet been published. This page will be updated with the latest information.

^ This transmitter only serves part of the location listed. Local alternative transmitters will not carry the extra HD channels. Check local coverage at www.digitaluk.co.uk

Notes:
  • Viewers with Freeview HD receivers or YouView boxes will need to retune on or after the roll-out date listed above to gain access to additional channels on Freeview HD channels 74, 106-108, plus standard definition Al Jazeera Arabic on channel 84.
  • Please check with Digital UK for a local reception prediction to confirm if you're in a coverage area. Where more than one transmitter is listed for a location above, Digital UK will identify which transmitter serves your street best. The above list is not exhaustive.
  • Check our full Freeview HD frequency listings for further details. Some viewers in some of the locations above may be able to get a signal from an alternative transmitter site.
  • Extra Freeview HD services will operate at a lower power than other services, therefore viewers in fringe reception areas may not be able receive the extra multiplexes, even though the other services from the transmitter are fine.
  • You may require a high gain aerial, a wideband aerial or just an adjustment to your current aerial. The Digital UK coverage checker will indicate if this is necessary.
  • Beware of buying any aerial just because it states it is "HD Ready".
  • Some viewers in North West England in particular may require a wideband aerial due to the new services using frequencies away from existing services.
