Bio closes to make way for Lifetime

A+E Networks is closing the Bio channel in the UK a day before the launch of its new Lifetime channel.

According to overnights.tv, Bio ceases on the 3rd November, with Lifetime launching on the 4th, taking over Bio's Sky and Virgin channel numbers.

Bio - originally The Biography Channel - was carried on Sky and Virgin and specialised in biographical documentaries, before branching out into scripted reality shows and factual entertainment programmes in recent years.

Lifetime is a new female-orientated channel, and an offshoot from the successful US cable network. Programmes on the channel include factual entertainment series Dance Moms, plus the celebrity chat show The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet.

  1. There's reports today that Bio might get a reprieve. Overnights.tv is now no longer reporting that Bio is closing and BroadcastNow.co.uk states "Bio is expected to be handed an alternative slot." More information when available.
