|LBC is one of the stations being axed on North West DAB.|
The regional tier of DAB in the region is closing on the 24th September, with regional radio stations migrating to local multiplexes. Already, listeners to Capital, Smooth and Real Radio on DAB have had to retune to continue listening via new frequencies. London station LBC is withdrawing from DAB in this area, following similar moves elsewhere in the UK over the past few months. Looped messages or scrolling radio text are advising listeners of the changes across the affected stations.
Global Radio's oldie station Gold is also affected by the chop, as is Heart, Choice, Real XS, TWR, UCB Gospel and Inspirational, plus XFM in Central Lancashire.
Gold, Heart, Choice and LBC can continue to be heard on digital satellite and cable services as well as via the internet. Heart is also available on Freeview channel 728.
The exact line-up of DAB radio stations in the area is subject to change further in the coming months as Global Radio is in the process of taking over Real and Smooth Radio. Global Radio has bought Real and Smooth Radio, but has to operate these services as if they were independent until regulatory approval has been gained. Subject to regulatory approval and Global Radio's own plans, stations such as Heart will make a re-appearance on DAB in the North West. Some stations may yet be sold off.
