True Entertainment launches on Freeview

UPDATED True Entertainment is joining Freeview from 6am Tuesday, except in Wales, in the second round of changes on Freeview this month.

It's the first CSC Media channel to launch on Freeview. Other channels operated by the company include Freesat channels Chart Show TV and True Movies.

The channel's launch on Freeview was made possible using capacity from ITV Plc's SDN multiplex, where it is using the multiplex's 13th slot. In Wales, the bandwidth is already used for E4, which in turn was moved to give Welsh channel S4C universal coverage back in September 2009, meaning that for the time being, the service is not available from Welsh transmitters.

YouView viewers in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland will also get the channel as part of the Freeview channel element of the platform.

True Entertainment is the home of classic US family drama series including The Waltons and made for TV movies.

Since a516digital first published True Entertainment's schedule for Tuesday 6th August, a revised schedule has been produced: the channel is starting its life on Freeview with first episodes of its long running dramas. So if you're watching on satellite or cable, that's why Little House has suddenly jumped back to the beginning...

  1. Does True Entertainment always have movies in its schedule during prime time (19:00 - 23:00)? I assume the above schedule is fairly standard in its layout?

  2. The schedule is indeed very structured. Occasionally there are changes, for example The Waltons used to be on at 5pm and Little House at 6pm, but otherwise a stable schedule

    1. There are currently no plans to add True Entertainment in Wales, as there is currently insufficient bandwidth for the channel (in Wales, S4C is added to the Freeview line-up; the long winded technical knock-on effect is that another channel has to be missing as a result.)
