Reading 107 joins DAB digital radio

Reading 107 has made is debut on DAB digital radio today. It launched at a special event during the half time break in the Reading v Watford Championship fixture in front of 20,000 fans.

The station, which is owned by Reading FC chairman Sir John Madejski, is broadcast on the Reading and Basingstoke local DAB multiplex, which also carries BBC Radio Berkshire, Heart, Gold, Capital and XFM to the local area.

Sir John Madejski said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for all the people in Reading and the surrounding towns and villages to be able to have a truly local radio station. Reading 107 and DAB Digital is like a local friend dropping in".

The DAB signal has a larger coverage zone compared to the current FM area, meaning that listeners in Slough and Basingstoke can also tune in to the new station. In the future, according to Ofcom documents, the local DAB service carrying Reading 107 will expand further to offer improved coverage of Andover, on what will become the "Berkshire and North Hampshire" multiplex.
