Late snow takes its toll on TV and radio reception

Divis transmitter
The adverse weather across the UK has  affected TV and radio signals in some locations.  Heavy snow and strong easterly winds have knocked out power cables, blocked satellite dishes and weighed down on some TV aerial installations.

While snow on satellite dishes has interfered with Sky and Freesat reception for some viewers, terrestrial broadcast platforms, including FM, DAB digital radio and Freeview have also been subject to breaks in transmission.

While some smaller relay transmitter sites across the UK have suffered brief breaks in transmission over the past 72 hours, the main transmitter masts at Divis and Black Mountain in Northern Ireland plus relay sites in South West Scotland, where there have also been major power failures, are among the worst hit areas.

a516digital has received reports from followers tonight that conditions are particularly bad for those receiving TV and radio from the Divis transmitter serving the Belfast area, where Freeview went down after earlier problems with FM radio. BBC Freeview services have within the last few minutes been restored.

The BBC's Radio and Television Investigation service has the following information on the situation in Northern Ireland, showing that services from the main Divis mast have either been off-air or at low power for most of the past two days.
