Local DAB launches in Beds, Bucks and Herts

A new digital radio multiplex bringing local radio stations to the DAB platform has gone live this morning across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

The signal was switched on at a launch event in Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes this morning, where BBC 3CR, Heart, Connect and MKFM were on hand to cover the event.

1.8 million live in the coverage area of the new service. At launch, six stations went live on the multiplex, including community station MKFM and commercial station Connect FM. Jack FM Hertfordshire was not among the launch stations, as earlier indicated. The stations replaced pre-launch test transmissions D-Love 1-5, named after the mascot of Digital Radio UK (pictured).

At launch, the service is being transmitted from the Sandy Heath transmitter in Bedfordshire alongside transmitters at Bow Brickhill (serving Milton Keynes) and Zouches Farm (near Luton). The transmitter at Epping Green in Hertfordshire has been delayed - it is expected to come on air within the next week and improve coverage across much of Hertfordshire.

To receive the additional local DAB radio stations, listeners will need to rescan their DAB digital radio receiver. Listeners who wish to manually tune in the stations can do so by tuning into VHF block 10D.
