Changes to BBC Red Button digital text: Overview

BBC Red Button page changes on terrestrial and satellite services:

The BBC Red Button text service is undergoing a few changes during February 2013. Depending on the digital TV platform used (Sky, Freesat, Freeview) to access the service, there are various changes to formatting. Page 998 of the text service has the details relevant to the platform you are using to view the service.

The following page changes are taking place this month (rollout speed varies depending on platform and some pages may not be available as listed below until all of the changes have been completed):

Regional News: Regional news pages are now structured in accordance with BBC Local areas, which in England are the same as BBC Local Radio editorial areas.

Cheshire: As Cheshire does not have its own BBC Local, news from Crewe area will appear under West Midlands > Stoke and Staffordshire, as under BBC Stoke coverage area. Chester news will appear under North West > Liverpool. Macclesfield news is covered under North West > Manchester

Lincolnshire: Is editorially part of the E Yorks & Lincolnshire TV region, but on BBC Red Button text, Lincolnshire's content is filed under East Midlands, and E Yorkshire (Humberside) is available alongside other reports Yorkshire.

    ● ditch airports but add gatwick
    ● cheshire and licolnshire being butchered up into a horsemeat scandal for the locals

    BBC Online news localisation goes well (perhaps one main exception Bristol which one region except its 4 unitary authorities and Bristol and Bath main rivary

    1. The removal of some airports indicates a contractual issue between the BBC and BAA. BAA has had to sell off Gatwick due to competition issues - and that gets reinstated!
      Regional news splits on digital text now match provision on BBC Online.

  2. Annoying that the quarter screen picture has been removed from the news articles pages. It's now no longer possible to keep an eye on a programme whilst reading the news. Much better as it was!
