All New Travel Channel coming soon

The Travel Channel looks set to be given a complete overhaul soon with a new schedule, new logo and new international programmes.

Speaking at C21media's Schedule Watch conference, Jon Sichel, MD of Scripps Networks, who took over the non-US versions of the Travel Channel in May 2012, said "We're introducing a new logo, new marketing and all new travel entertainment programming for the most part."

No time frame for the changes was indicated.

Sister channel Food Network UK has received heavy investment over the past few years, with popular shows including Andy Bates' Street Feasts being aired on Channel 5 and Man Vs Food on Dave - a channel co-owned by Scripps Networks. Food Network has appeared on Freesat and Freeview EPGs resulting in wider audiences than rival lifestyle channels.

Now Scripps wants to boost Travel Channel's profile in a similar vein, looking at relying less on US content and producing programmes that can be broadcast on both Travel Channel and Food Network. Whether the overhaul will include distribution deals on other platforms remains to be seen. Travel Channel UK is currently only available on the Sky EPG and on free-to-air satellite in non-Freesat mode.
