BT Vision expands linear service with Viacom deal

BT Vision has signed a carriage deal with Viacom, bringing MTV, Comedy Central and Nickleodeon to the Freeview/IP hybrid platform later this year.

MTV UK is known for shows including Geordie Shore and The Valleys and events like the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Comedy Central will broadcast shows such as The Daily Show, South Park, 30 Rock, Friends and Two and a Half Men into BT Vision households.

Nickelodeon, known for its hit show SpongeBob SquarePants as well as the hit UK-produced mystery series, House of Anubis will be joined by Nick Jr on BT Vision.

Some programmes from the above channels will also be available on demand, according to BT.

MTV UK, Comedy Channel, Nickleodeon and Nick Jr will join Universal Channel, Syfy, E!, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Real Time, British Eurosport 1 and 2, FX, National Geographic, National Geographic WILD and UKTV’s Gold, Watch and Alibi on BT Vision;s internet delivered linear TV service, which is yet to launch.

Sky channels currently remain absent from the forthcoming internet delivered service, although BT Vision subscribers can access Sky Sports 1 and 2 plus Sky News, Challenge and Pick TV via the digital terrestrial television part of the service.

Some of the above channels were originally indicated to launch by the end of 2012, and some subscribers have expressed their annoyance at the delay in launching the new linear TV service.
