From today, viewers receiving Freeview HD from Wales-based transmitters can receive Channel 4 HD on channel 104 after S4C surrended its capacity on the Freeview HD multiplex at the end of yesterday.

The service was added at around 06:15 this morning and followed S4C's Clirlun service closing down last night at 23:59. Clirlun - the HD simulcast of S4C - was closed down as a result of cost cutting at the Welsh broadcaster, aimed at reducing losses ahead of a change of funding, which will see the majority of money for the channel coming from the BBC licence fee from next year.

Channel 4 HD has been available on Freeview HD in parts of England and Scotland since 2010 and Northern Ireland since October 2012. Reception of Channel 4 HD was available in North and South East Wales from transmitters based in England up until today.
