Digital UK and DMOL to merge

The organisation that was responsible for overseeing the digital switchover is to merge with DMOL, the digital terrestrial TV platform manager.

Digital UK had already taken management of DMOL, but the organisation will formally become one in January 2013, keeping the Digital UK brand. As part of the change, Caroline Thomson, ex BBC chief operating officer is to become the new chairperson of the organisation.

The merged organisation will be responsible for communicating changes to Freeview services as well as managing the technical side of digital terrestrial television, including organising the EPG and allocating channel numbers.

Over the next few months, Digital UK will be overseeing the clearance of Freeview services from frequencies earmarked for futute 4G use.
