Radio XL deserts Birmingham's DAB mux, Region-wide launch likely

Birmingham's Radio XL has left its slot on Birmingham's DAB digital radio multiplex.

The station is reportedly going to appear on the former Asian FX slot on the West Midlands (ex-MXR) multiplex shortly, which is a 64kbps mono slot. A DAB multiplex variation was agreed in June by Ofcom, paving the way for the station to join the regional multiplex.

Radio XL claims to play "the best in asian music" and is also distributed on 1296 kHz MW (AM).

The West Midlands DAB multiplex enjoys a much wider coverage area, which stretches from South Derbyshire past Birmingham and Wolverhampton and into Shropshire.
